The Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) have issued a Recall Notice (18/03/19) for Mercury V6 FourStroke (175-225 HP) outboard engine & Mercury V8 Racing model (200-300HP) outboard engines.
It is possible for water to leak into the shift actuator. Such water leakage could cause internal corrosion and wire damage, eventually causing the engine to go into Guardian-forced idle, losing shift control (engine remains in its last gear position), or the engine may not restart. If engine power or control is lost, it is possible that the boat could become stranded.
Check the list on the ACCC website for serial numbers of affected engines, along with the suppliers by State.
Consumers should contact their nearest Mercury dealer who will arrange for the engine to be inspected and, if affected by the recall, for the shift actuator to be replaced.
